Spending the winter studying anatomy, physiology, kinesiology and pathology, inspired me to take a step in the direction of movement and physical activities. Sure, maybe it’s also my Latin blood desperately calling out for heat but the truth is like Spiderman says “with great power comes great responsibility”. Now that I understand how the human body works, I owe it to myself to honor and cherish it.
Searching for a physical activity that I would look forward to took some work. I’m not one to glorify painful moments in life and building muscles never sounds like a delightful experience. Thankfully, after a nice and peaceful meditation I had the answer! Physical activities do not always require strenuous movements that stress our bodies and can instead be ways for us to have fun while nourishing ourselves. In my meditation, I remembered running and playing at the beach in Puerto Rico. That’s all my brothers and I wanted to do. It became clear that my love for the ocean is a place of inspiration.
Although Delaware has beaches, they tend to be uninviting to a native Puerto Rican. To me, Delaware beaches are very cold and hold a mysterious secret in their foggy appearance. Never the less, finding a heated pool with crystal clear water is not difficult. So, I joined the Delaware Swim and Fitness Club. Swimming has now become my new found love. It’s a chance to be active, have fun and move in the direction of a healthy lifestyle. My new favorite moto is:
BEING UNDER WATER IS ENTERING A UNIVERSE WHERE YOU CAN FLY BUT YOU CAN'T BREATHE
For those of you who are also undergoing a transformation, I invite you not to do it alone. Regularly getting a massage helps calm the mind and increase circulation which are both components of the healing that taking place in the body.
Trust me, I get massages all the time.
